SAN BERNARDINO, CA – For the last thirty years, Catholic Charities has been the place where families can go in our local communities when they have nowhere else to turn, and they lack the resources they need. Catholic Charities serves over 19,000 households each year with a range of critically needed social services. Throughout the month of March, Catholic Charities will be celebrating 30 years of “Providing Help, Creating Hope” with an array of anniversary events.
Beverly Earl, an employee of Catholic Charities’ since 1982, thinks the theme of “Celebrating 30 Years of Service” is appropriate. “We have done so much for so many. We really do need to need to take time to celebrate,” said Ms. Earl, San Bernardino County Family Assistance Programs, “I am encouraging everyone to come and celebrate with us.” These accolades were echoed by Most Reverend Gerald R. Barnes in the Catholic Charities October publication “Faith In Action” in October of 2009, “Catholic Charities was founded 30 years ago with the mission to provide needed social services throughout the diocese. We can all be proud of the significant efforts of Catholic Charities to assist the growing number of struggling families.”
“For 30 years, Catholic Charities staff and volunteers have ‘provided help, created hope’ for tens of thousands of families in the two county area — one family at a time,” commented Ken F. Sawa, the CEO of Catholic Charities. “Assisting nearly 20,000 households a year is not a simple proposition. It requires a complicated network of funding sources, community partners, diverse staff, and collaborations. Our anniversary events will encompass and celebrate these partnerships.’”
Catholic Charities was founded March 10th, 1980, as a 501(c) 3 public benefit non-profit agency with the goal of increasing the stability, safety, and health of low income families and those in crisis. Services are provided to all families regardless of religious affiliation. Catholic Charities is one of the largest private providers of social services in the Inland Counties.
