NAP: Getting State Tax Credits for Your Gift
Thanks to the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP), businesses and individuals who donate to Minnick Education Centers can receive tax credits for their contributions. Started 25 years ago by the Virginia General Assembly, the program allows businesses to receive tax credits for their contributions of cash, goods, stock, real estate, professional services, contracting services and the rent or lease of the participating nonprofits' facilities. Individual contributions must be cash only.
- How does it work for businesses?
A business contributing directly to an approved NAP organization may receive a state tax credit for 40 percent of their total contribution. Tax credits may be available to a business making a donation of at least $1000, but not more than $437,500. For example: A minimum donation of $1,000 (x.40) would equal a $400 tax credit. A maximum donation of $437,500 donation (x.40) would equal a tax credit of $175,000 tax credit per tax year.
- And for individuals or married couples?Tax credits may also be available to individuals or married couples making cash donations directly to MEC. The minimum donation by an individual or a married couple is $500. The value of the tax credit for a $500 donation would be equal to 40 percent of the donation ($500 x .40) for a $200 tax credit.
