Introducing a New Project for 2009-2010: Lux/East Project

In its 60th year, NHRI is pleased to announce that it is as vibrant as ever. Last spring, NHRI experienced an unprecedented number of freshmen nominees. Due to the caliber of these nominees, NHRI started a new project at Lux Middle School with graduates of NHRI’s Priceless Preteen Leadership Program.
This project began in 2009 due to a group of students and parents who were involved in Priceless Preteen who later attended to Lux Middle School. These students organized initially, because they wanted to continue their leadership development beyond just the summer. This group along with their parents approached NHRI and began working twice a month with college students in the Clifton Project.
After one year, NHRI and the Lux students and parents decided to form an entirely new project. There are 12 Lux/East students paired with 12 college student counselors in this project. New junior counselors are selected every year based on their involvement in Priceless Preteen and if they plan to attend Lux Middle School. For the first few years, students who graduate from Lux and move on to attend Lincoln East High School will still continue in the project. Once the group becomes large enough, the Lux/East Project will split into the Lux Project and East Project.
The objective for the junior counselors will be to make a difference within Lux Middle School and Lincoln East High School.
